Mexican Ground Beef Tacos Recipe-Step by Step

Mexican Dishes

Many traditional Mexican dishes have made their way into kitchens worldwide and gained acceptance, along with Mexican street food such as tacos. These wheat or corn tortilla parcels are filled with a variety of fillings such as vegetables, seafood, and succulent meats most commonly lamb chicken and carne asada .Over the years this traditional dish has been manipulated into many recipes, with some being simple and others a little more complex. Today we bring you’re an easy to follow beef taco recipe.

Beef Tacos

First you would need to decide what type of tortilla you would want for your taco. You have the option of having corn, flour tortilla, and having soft or crunchy tacos. Let’s focus on corn tortilla for now.  If you don’t have tortillas in your local shop, you can purchase instant corn flour-mix to make your own tortillas.  It is quite simple just follow the instructions on the packet.  Basically all instant tortilla corn flour requires you to add water to the corn flour. Then, mix the dough with your hands for about fifteen minutes. Once it is ready, you can take the dough and make balls about the size of a golf ball. You would then get your tortilla press ready to place the ball of dough into the tortilla press, press down gently to form a flat disk.. You would then need to place this flattened bread onto a hot skillet. Wait 30-40 seconds before you flip it over. Then you wait another 30-40 seconds then take it out of the skillet, and your corn tortilla is ready to be filled.
The steps are almost the same for flour tortilla. You would purchase ready-mix flour, requiring you to add only water. You blend the dough the same way you blend the corn tortilla. To make flour tortilla, you will not need the tortilla press, but a roller pin to flatten out the tortilla into a 7-8 inch circle. After you have made your flour into a flattened circle, you would repeat the same steps as the corn tortilla on the skillet.

When making wheat flour tortillas, some people enjoy spreading margarine on their hot tortilla. The margarine melts quickly and creates a delicious snack, by itself. Although this is not known as a taco, another popular choice is melted cheese onto the corn or flour tortilla. Many people know this as a quesadilla.

To make a crunchy or hard shell taco, you would need a ready tortilla and some cooking oil. You get the corn tortilla and place it into a U-shape before placing it on the hot cooking oil. You let it fry until the tortilla becomes a hard shell, thus the name hard-shelled taco. The U-shape creates the space needed to add your fillings.

These steps might seem a little complicated, or you might not have the required ingredients. If so, you can always purchase a pack of tortilla already made from your supermarket. The only steps you would need is to heat them up either on your microwave or skillet.

Making the taco fillings is the other part of making tortillas. Ground beef is chosen because its more readily available than say, seafood, or ground chicken. First acquire all the ingredients you will need- ground beef, onions, pepper and seasoning ingredients- oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, chili and garlic powders.

  • 1 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon mild smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon hot smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 garlic’s minced
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup of water
  • 2 Table spoons of cooking oil
  1. On a hot skillet and oil, minced garlic and onion and cook until onion is soft and translucent.

  1. Add the beef and cook until brown. Once browned and all the spices, salt and water then simmer until fully cooked and you are ready to serve. This is by far the easiest and fastest way to make tacos when you have the least amount of time.

  1. When the meat is ready you can then use it to fill soft corn tortillas or crispy taco shells, and top with your favourite taco garnishes.

You can put just about any filling you can think of onto the tortilla. Some ideas are: Skirt steak, carnitas (pulled pork) chicken, fish, lamb, grilled veggies and refried beans. You can top with endless garnishes such as lettuce, cheese, onions, tomatoes avocado, and salsa, to make your tacos delicious. For breakfast tacos, you can put egg, bacon, sausage, or anything you can think of onto you taco.
Tacos have high calories, so if you always watch what you eat, make sure you don’t exceed the number of calories you are used to taking. But even when you are watching your weight, you can attest to the rich, unforgettable taste that tacos give.
Mexican street food tacos can be filled with just about any filling you like so get creative because there is no wrong way to make tacos.

2 Awesome snacks and dishes made with Tortilla Wraps

Tortilla wraps and what to fill them with

There are very many tortilla wraps-inspired dishes/meals/snacks/foods. The most popular include (but aren’t limited to);

  1. Burritos

Burritos are tortillas which have been folded or wrapped into cylindrical shapes to enclose fillings completely. Burritos are made by folding tortillas in half, around a filling and then leaving the semi-circular perimeter open. The tortilla is lightly steamed or grilled to soften it and make it more malleable. Mexican Burritos are filled with refried beans and meat filling. In the U.S. however, Burritos can be filled with just about any desired fillings ranging from Mexican-style rice, plain rice, refried beans, salsa, and lettuce to meat, guacamole, sour cream, cheese etc.

  1. Chalupas

In Mexican cuisine, a chalupa refers to a toasted platter. Chalupas are south-central Mexico delicacies. They are popular in states such as Oaxaca, Guerrero and Puelba. Chalupas are prepared by pressing masa dough around a small mold to create a concave container-like molding that resembles a boat which goes by the same name. The molding is then deep fried to a crisp shallow corn cup. The resulting molding is then filled with ingredients such as shredded pork, chicken, chipotle pepper, chopped onion and red or green salsa.

Traditional chalupas, which are popular in Cholula in Puebla, are small and thick boat-shaped fried masa harina topped with cheese, salsa, and shredded lettuce. There are however many other chalupas variations. Other regions include pork, chorizo, bean paste or shredded chicken in addition to the classic salsa, cheese, and lettuce toppings. The popularity of chalupas all over Mexico has influenced many. To try original Mexican dishes in London I would recommend mezcal cantina in dalston London.
